Let’s be honest ladies, there’s nothing worse than dragging your sorry butt to the gym, only to leave feeling, well, meh.
But sometimes, those bad workout days just happen. And it feels like there’s nothing we can do about it! Thankfully, there is.
If you’re lacking that drive to really push your workout, here’s what you can do to push through! And of course, we need to take a closer look as to why they happen in the first place. So let’s jump right in…
Work out your why
If you’re anything like me, you wanna know the reason why you’re feeling why you do. The trouble is, there could be a number of things going on that result in a crappy workout day.
It could be something as simple as a bad night’s sleep, or a change in your diet. This is where the body can respond in a variety of ways – sometimes impacting your motivation to workout.
But of course, it’s not all about motivation! Sometimes we feel like we don’t have the energy, or the drive in the gym for what would otherwise feel like an easy rep. So, what’s the most important thing here? Giving it your best. As long as you can leave your workout knowing you gave it a damn good shot, you’re onto a winner.
How to say no to bad workout days
Sometimes it can be hard to shake off those bad workout days! But while the odd workout day can feel daunting on the day, tomorrow is a new day to conquer your goals!
Here’s my best advice…
Set intentions, daily
Although these may sound like ‘goals’, intentions are less about expectations. This means that you’re spending more time recognizing your achievements, and less time worrying about ‘hitting’ a goal that day.

Start by writing down your intention for the day, and keep it with you. This can be on a piece of paper, or even on your phone – but keep it close by! This can be anything. Maybe it’s the intention of being more organized that day, trying a new move in the gym, or simply having some time to yourself to recharge.
Chat to a friend
There’s not like laughing with friends to help destress and re-center yourself. If you’re struggling with something, in particular, speak to someone you can trust to help alleviate your concerns.
Reach out to someone you trust who understands your worries and is more than happy to talk without any pressure.
Find a workout buddy
Now, this doesn’t have to be the same person as above! But it can certainly help. Many of us struggle to get going in the gym when we go it alone. So, what better way than finding a friend to work out with?
Working out with a friend can not only keep you both motivated, but also add some extra fun to exercising! Not every workout has to be in the gym remember… Why not try having a kick about in the park, racketball or a park run?
It’s easy to get caught up focussing on the negative things in life. In fact, our brains can often veer off to seek negativity, when we should really be focusing on the positives.

Practicing gratitude is a great way to train your brain to seek out the positives instead. If you’re anything like me, start with a journal. Then, you can revisit your thoughts later on when you need a little extra motivation.
